[Dragonmun Studios] OMG, It’s Starting to Look Like a Book!
This month's newsletter is late because something really exciting was on a mail truck, heading to my house, and I wanted to share it with you all!
Right there, in the image at the top of the newsletter, is the printed draft of the Sivoa: Zenith manuscript! I'm going to attack that brain baby with so much red ink in what will be the first of many rounds of book editing. I'm so excited!
Unfortunately, this does not mean that I have a release date yet. Editing is a process that takes a long time, and that's before I send it to my editor, Patty. What it does mean is that sometime in the near future I will likely be offering the ability to beta-read the thing to those on Patreon (this will be a separate thing from the raw preview snippets).
In the meantime, I'm still doing Sivoa art stuff. This month features Sensory Overload - a charity exhibit that I like to participate in, if for nothing else, because I like to showcase the new and weird things I do to embellished prints. 😁
I will also be participating in the Tampa Bay Comic Convention! I was one of those lucky people on the waitlist that managed to get a table - which, like, never happens for me. What an awesome surprise!
I never get tired of opening boxes like this. While I didn't technically "win" the NaNoWriMo again this year, I've been extremely successful with it. Sivoa: Zenith now has as many words as Sivoa: Sunrise and the ending is actually written. I just need to fill in some plot holes and write in some scene connectors before it's onto the editing phase. I forgot how exciting it is to be this close to the finish line! Heck, I'm feeling this on two fronts! The children's book I've been working on is approaching completion and is looking like it'll make its deadline of February! Y'all, this story is so stinking cute! It's about 5 little goblins just barely not failing at puppy sitting. Stylistically, it's like a hybrid storybook and comic, which helps to keep it timeless. 🥰 Being on the production side, I do not know what launch procedures for this book will look like, but if you want to be kept informed about release and ordering information
As I'm typing this, I'm preparing to leave for Rose City Comic Con , in Portland, OR with my BFF, The White Elk ! This is the first convention I've ever attended on that side of the country and I'm excited to see, like, s o many online friends ! Then two weeks after that I get to see even more at Necronomicon over here in Tampa, where I will be vending . I really kind of need this after last month. August was very rough for me with the kiddo starting school back up (in Florida, where everything is insane) and the passing of Jarvis , my (but then Daniel's ) cat. She meant a lot to me. More than I think I'll ever be able to explain. I did manage to get some art done though! Two children's book pages, a Sivoa illustration (with another coming out on Tuesday!), and two Sivoa sketches! All of which can be found on the Patreon member Discord channel ! I also got a ton of writing done. 😁 If you already follow me on Patreon (it's free!), these monthly emails
Happy 2022! All these twos must be affecting my brain because I've been two days late with my regularly scheduled content since the year started. 😅 I want to blame the cheese, but in truth it's because I've been overwhelmed with the move into my new house and the death of a dear friend . In fact, I've been using the move to dive mindlessly into physical labor and turn off my feelings - which bit me in the ass earlier this week when I realized that I hadn't even started on my Patreon update. I opened up photoshop to start coloring and about ten minutes in I couldn't see the screen through my tears. That moment of quiet allowed me to grieve like I should've in the first place and I guess I'm better now for it. I still miss Weatherly though. He was a staple of convention life for me - a friendly face that was always there to tell really bad jokes, make silly faces, and show off his latest shirt designs. He was the father of Aardvark Tees and if you'
